When the second round of the professional baseball playoff (best out of five) between the Samsung Lions and the LG Twins was canceled due to rain, LG manager Yeom Kyung-yeop couldn’t hide his joy. He expressed confidence that if players who have been running without a break take a day off, they can change the flow of the series.
Coach Yeom Kyung-yeop entered the press conference right after the second playoff game against Samsung was canceled at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on Wednesday. His face was full of smiles from the beginning.
“I thought a day off would help us a little bit, but it was really helpful because it rained,” Yeom said. “Our options increased with the break. The probability has increased more in our direction.”
The option Yeom said is mound management. According to the original plan, Detrick N.S. was scheduled to start Game 2 on the day, and Son Joo-young was scheduled to start Game 3 and Game of 꽁머니 two days later.
However, as the game has been cancelled, Son will be forced to play in the second game on Saturday. The timing of the game is undecided.
“I thought tomorrow was the most important thing,” Yeom said. “I can’t decide by myself, so I talked with the training part and the player myself and asked for everyone’s consent.”
“Ence has also been taking the mound every three days since the semi-playoff, but this time, he will be able to recover faster as he rests more.”
Due to the cancellation of the rain, LG’s bullpen pitchers have also started to accumulate strength. Except for Kim Jin-sung, Yoo Young-chan, and Elijah Hernandez, LG has no clear team to win, and all of them earned extra day.
“If we play tomorrow, we will have another day off, so there will be no problem for Hernandez to play two innings in the second game,” Yeom said. “Except for Hernandez, there is no bullpen pitcher who goes overboard. Everything has increased our chances.”
“We will continue to focus on what we are good at rather than preparing for the opponent,” he said, vowing to advertise, “It is more important to throw and hit what we were good at than to change the response according to the opponent’s power.”
