It’s finally here, Folsom faithful!

The 2014 Folsom Street Fair is this weekend, on September 21st, and there are plenty of fun pre-events to help you celebrate all week.

That’s right, the Castro and Folsom areas are chalked with events we can’t wait to share with you as we continue to get you ready for the world’s biggest and best leather event.

Surely you already followed the My Castro leather guide—wink wink nudge—and have yourself ready for the big event.

But what about all the to-dos before that?

We got in touch with Folsom Street Events and picked out a few things, some party friendly that will help you get your Folsom on. Some are your usual party fair, and some are little more buttoned-up… what? Not everything has to be about wearing leather chaps!

September 17th: We are very interested in the “History of The Folsom Street Fair” tour being held at the SF LGBT Center. San Francisco ‘s Leathermen’s Discussion Group has been educating us on kink/fetish/leather/BDSM since it was founded in 1996, so who better to organize the event? Gayle Rubin, Ph.D. will be your hostess for the event, which runs 7:30pm-9:30pm.

And a happening ending before 10pm means that there’s still plenty of time to hit up before you head home. Check out joint party at Blow Buddies on Harrison, or stick in the Castro for Booty Call Wednesdays at Q Bar.

September 18th: Blow Buddies is continuing their party shenanigans for the rest of the week, letting you experience Play Party if you didn’t get the opportunity to head down there the night before.

Looking for something a bit different? Get your fix of drag performances and electronic music at The Stud for the Adonisaurus EP launch party featuring GAYmous.

September 19th: San Francisco loves its pop-ups, so why wouldn’t Folsom get in on the action?

Guerrilla Queer Bar and Pop Up Gay Bar are taking over several run-of-the-mill watering holes and transforming them into leather bars Friday night for the ultimate Folsom friendly crawl. The festivities start at the Tonga Room at 6pm.

Follow the crowd to the next leathered-up bar, or head over to Public Works for Bearracuda and kick off your Folsom weekend with a dance party for the big and burly.

September 20th: Of course, Folsom Street Fair’s gigantic Saturday night pre-party is Magnitude at Treasure Island.

DJ’s and fetish on the dance floor until 4am: you might as well go from the party straight to the fair, especially since there will be shuttles running from the Castro and SoMa to the venue.

That is, as long as you pack deodorant. Dancing in non-breathable leather all night gets sweaty, sticky and smelly.

September 22st: Lookout is hosting parties all throughout the week before the Folsom Street Fair. But they are definitely our pick for the Folsom post-party.

Yes. Post party.

Doors open at 1:30—because we all know some of you will still be drunk from Sunday anyways—and DJs will be spinning from 3pm-9pm.
