At Mix, everyone knows your name… well, you may have to introduce yourself first. Mix is Castro’s favorite friendly neighborhood bar where you can stop by, throw back a few cocktails, pick out your favorite songs from the jukebox and play some pool. The best part about Mix is their open-air (heated!) outdoor patio with a second bar and bench seating (I’m a sucker for enjoying a good drink outside in beautiful weather!). The bartenders are friendly and laid back, and the regular customers are well known throughout the Castro District.

If the slogan “Cold Pitchers, Hot Catchers” doesn’t lure you into the Castro District’s one and only gay sports bar, we don’t know what will (besides the next Giants or 49ers game).

Even though our beloved Lookout, Pilsner Inn and Moby Dick have been known to show a sports game or two from time to time, Hi Tops (2247 Market Street) is the first gay bar in San Francisco to fully commit to an overall sports theme.

Throw it back World War II style at Castro, San Francisco’s favorite 1940s-inspired cocktail bar, Churchill. Churchill opened back in 2011, taking the place of what used to be The Bar on Church. This swanky palace isn’t necessarily a “gay bar” or “straight bar” — it’s a place that aims to be comfortable and welcoming to all folks, regardless of their strokes.
