The Queens of the Castro (a group of three, gay male drag queens — Darla Gayle, Honda Hybrid and Jenna Talia) raise awareness about gender and sexual orientation in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Queens work closely with LGBTQ youth by organizing and implementing drag shows at various high schools across the Bay Area.

The Lookout (3600 16th Street) is not only a great bar to people-watch from their prime balcony spot, but on Fridays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, you can stuff your face with free chicken wings! If you like vodka, they also have a $3 deal on all Skyy Vodka drinks from 3:30pm to 9:00pm. But if you want those wings, just be sure to arrive early because they’ll go fast!

Safeway Recycling Center Eviction: "Tremendous Improvement to the Neighborhood"

The recycling center at the Safeway on Church and Market — which has been operating for nearly three decades — has been issued an eviction notice.

Why? Wendy Gustall from Safeway told Haighteration that it’s because the widespread availability of curbside recycling makes this San Francisco Community Recycling Center somewhat obsolete. The facility also has a negative impact on neighbors and Safeway customers.

Thank You, Google: Castro District Parks are Getting Wi-Fi!

Aw shucks, Google — you shouldn’t have! On July, 24th 2013, Mayor Ed Lee announced that 31 San Francisco parks, playgrounds, plazas and recreation centers will be getting two years of free Wi-Fi from Google — a $600,000 gift — no strings attached.

With some approvals still pending, installations are set to start in November of this year and be completed by Spring 2014. This tech-alicious gift is designed to empower citizens and community groups, and serve as a pilot for city-wide free Wi-Fi in the future, according to Tech Crunch.
