Love Project Runway? Then you’ll LOVE Project Nunway! Project Nunway is a charity fashion show where designers are paired with Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to create a high fashion couture look for the 21st Century queer nun from recycled materials. It will be held on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 at the SOMArts Cultural Center on Bryant Street between 8th and 9th Streets in San Francisco . It will be hosted by Sister Roma and co-hosted by Peaches Christ.
The theme this year (it’s their sixth show!) is “Project Nunway Six-Six-Six: Heretics of Fashion.” The idea behind this theme is playful and irreverent twist on beastly, demonic imagery as well as a rebellious attitude toward the hierarchy of fashion. The original inspiration for the Project Nunway came from both the reality TV show and a scene from Fellini’s 1972 film “Roma” featuring a Vatican fashion show.
And guess what… they’re still searching for designers! “We are currently seeking submissions from fashion designers willing to volunteer their time to Project Nunway. The challenge is not only to work within the theme, but we encourage designers to only use recycled materials and a budget of under $100,” said Project Nunway Producer, Sister Zsa Zsa Glamour.
About the Sisters: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® is a leading-edge Order of queer nuns. Since our first appearance in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, 1979, the Sisters have devoted ourselves to community service, ministry and outreach to those on the edges, and to promoting human rights, respect for diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have a right to express their unique joy and beauty and we use humor and irreverent wit to expose the forces of bigotry, complacency and guilt that chain the human spirit.
